Irish traffic signs are categorized into several types:
Warning Signs (triangular, red and white)
Regulatory Signs (circular, red and white)
Mandatory Signs (circular, blue and white)
Informational Signs (rectangular, various colors)
Directional Signs (rectangular, green and white)
Roadwork Signs (temporary, yellow and black), and Supplementary Plates (rectangular, white with black text).
Regulatory signs (circular, red and white) tell you what you must or must not do, such as speed limits, no entry, or stop signs. Warning signs (triangular, red and white) alert you to potential hazards ahead, such as sharp bends, pedestrian crossings, or road works.
Default speed limits in Ireland are:
50 km/h in built-up areas
80 km/h on regional roads
100 km/h on national roads, and 120 km/h on motorways. These may be reduced by signs for safety reasons.
